Hands-On Learning in Traditional Bamboo Artistry
23 September 2024
INTACH Thrissur hosted a lively Bamboo Craft Workshop at Kulapati Munshi Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir in Pottore. The workshop aimed to ignite creativity and promote sustainability through traditional craftmanship. Led by skilled artisans Ms. Ajitha Sundaran and Ms. Unnimaya from Kuttichira, provided students with hands-on experience in bamboo crafting. This event is part of INTACH’s HEC Department Initiative, “Discover the Importance of Living Heritage.” Key participants included Convenor Vinod Kumar M M, EC Member Shaji and INTACH members Santhosh, Sujith, Oshin along with Coordinator Ar Athira, all of whom helped make the workshop a meaningful experience for the students.
The workshop will focus on creating a variety of bamboo products such as weaving baskets, bamboo fans, decorative flowers, flower stands, lampshades, and bamboo ornaments. Participants will gain insight into the intricate process of bamboo craft—right from raw material handling to designing and assembling functional and artistic items.
The event is an opportunity to reconnect with eco-friendly materials and traditional craftsmanship while encouraging a deeper understanding of bamboo’s potential as a sustainable resource in modern design and daily life. It also serves as a platform for nurturing young talent and promoting local artisanship.
The Bamboo Craft Workshop was a resounding success, enriching the students’ learning experience and promoting eco-consciousness. BVB Pottore School authorities remain committed to providing diverse and enriching activities that contribute to the holistic development of its students.
