A Photo Exhibition by Kabul Alam Azad
Linking Lineages – Men of Pukar is a powerful photo exhibition by renowned photographer and former international photojournalist Kabul Alam Azad. Held from January 11 to 13, 2019, at the historic Nalukkettu of the former Alakkattu Mana in Cherpu, Thrissur, Kerala, the exhibition presents evocative portraits and documentary imagery that explore heritage, identity, and the continuity of cultural memory.
Organised with the support of India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), and co-hosted by Ekalokam Trust for Photography (EtP), Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Thrissur Chapter, and The TheatreConnekt Performing Arts, the event created a vibrant cultural dialogue through photography.
The exhibition was graced by the presence of esteemed personalities, including Padma Shri Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, celebrated mridangam maestro Kalamandalam V.K.K. Hariharan, Bangladeshi cultural scholar Dr. Mahima Rahman, acclaimed poet Kuzhur Wilson, and writer-curator Prem Manasvi. Their presence added immense value to the occasion, reinforcing the cultural significance of the work on display.
Men of Pukar captures the stories of individuals from the ancient Tamil coastal town of Poompuhar, reflecting on lineage, transformation, and resilience. Set in the culturally rich ambience of Alakkattu Mana, the exhibition served as both a visual experience and a tribute to enduring traditions.
