YOUNG INTACH is INTACH Thrissur’s youth outreach initiative aimed at students and young heritage enthusiasts—feeding their curiosity about India’s art, culture, and heritage.

The Young INTACH of the Thrissur Chapter aims to instill a deep sense of heritage awareness among school and college students. Through workshops, quizzes, heritage walks, and creative competitions, the chapter actively engages youth in exploring and preserving Thrissur’s cultural and natural legacy.

Heritage Club-Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Irinjalakuda

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Irinjalakuda, has proudly become an institutional member of the INTACH Thrissur Chapter. The school’s Heritage Club was officially inaugurated on 24th August 2022 by Architect Surya Prasanth, Co-Convener of INTACH Thrissur. The club was established in collaboration with INTACH, under the initiative of the Humanities Stream and the Social Science Department.
The primary objective of forming the Heritage Club was to instill in students a sense of awareness and pride in the rich natural and cultural heritage of their locality. It aims to encourage active student participation in heritage-related activities. In today’s world, where cultural roots are often overlooked, such initiatives have become essential. Every student who becomes a member of the Heritage Club is inspired to learn more about local history and contribute to its preservation.

The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of teachers Mrs. Shalini G. and Mrs. Anju K. Rajagopal, whose joint efforts ensured its success. The inauguration began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the formal handing over of the ‘Life Membership’ cheque to INTACH official Mr. Shaji M. Vasudevan by Chairman Sri C. Surendran. Principal Sri Biju Geevarghese presented a memento to the Chief Guest, Architect Surya Prasanth. During her inaugural address, she also engaged the students in an interactive session where they expressed their enthusiasm for conserving Irinjalakuda’s heritage.

As part of the vibrant celebration of art and culture, students beautifully decorated the venue with thoranams (festoons) made from tender coconut leaves and fresh flowers. Traditional kolam designs made with rice flour adorned the floor, warmly

welcoming the guests. The venue also served as an exhibition space showcasing the cultural heritage of Irinjalakuda. The displays included traditional sweets prepared by students at home, reflecting the diverse cultural traditions of Kerala’s communities.
Also on display were thaliyola (ancient palm leaf manuscripts) along with ezhutani (traditional stylus), handmade masks representing various art forms, traditional vessels, and antique cast-iron boxes. The thoughtful exhibits and decorations impressed everyone, including the Chief Guest.

The interactive session and cultural displays sparked a deep interest in heritage conservation among the students. The event was a remarkable celebration of local history and tradition, leaving everyone present truly inspired and in awe of the students’ efforts.
